The 81st World Science Fiction Convention was held in Chengdu, China in October. Artvision was excited and honoured to be one of the manufacturers of this giant installation sculpture, named Benben, from a Chinese science fiction film.
This large stainless steel sculpture took three months to fabricate and install on site. Our team was mainly responsible for the leg parts of the sculpture as well as the mirror polished stainless steel parts that the legs are attached to. The designers used 3D technology to accurately divide the sculpture into sections for fabrication, and then carefully assembled and welded each section together upon completion. The production process was challenging. For a large stainless steel sculpture, the interior needs to be supported by a strong enough structure. Our engineers designed the main structure and sub-structure according to force analysis and calculations. The main structure ensures the stability and safety of the sculpture, while the sub-structure ensures that the panels are flat and not deformed. The overall structure is also made of high quality and highly corrosion resistant stainless steel as the main material.
Moreover, Artvision team was also responsible for the transport and on-site installation of the sculpture after its completion. The installation is not only a sculpture, but also a modern scientific work of art. It is also worth seeing that it incorporates projection technology, which projects various styles of sci-fi imagery onto the piece, which is very impressive and spectacular.
