This one meter high sculpture is one of the masterpieces by Chinese young modern art sculptor Luo Dan. It is made of bronze and features an uneven color patina on the surface, created through traditional lost-wax casting process.
The process of creating this bronze sculpture involves several steps. Firstly, a wax model and silicone mold are made based on the artist’s design. Then the bronze material is melted and poured into the mold using the casting process. After cooling and solidification, the sculpture undergoes meticulous trimming and polishing to achieve a smooth and delicate surface. Lastly, it is polished and waxed to showcase a shiny metallic texture, enhancing its durability and corrosion resistance.
In Luo Dan’s sculpture, the portrayal of a plump dancer from traditional ideology embodies agility, fleshiness, and roundness, creating a visual tension that is both heavy and light. The simple and flowing lines impart a sense of strength to the sculpture.
